Dr. Winterberg's journey as a health psychologist revealed the stark inequities faced by marginalized communities. Witnessing firsthand how childhood adversity and unresolved trauma could impede the capacity to thrive, she recognized the complex interplay between individual challenges and structural barriers that avert health and mental equity. She maintains a private mental health practice while championing equity for marginalized communities across educational and healthcare domains.
In her debut book, The Queer are Here, she insightfully delves into the intricacies of queer educational experiences exposing systemic academic and cultural barriers that fortify inequities. She then provides a path forward in a companion Resource Manual and a 9-part workbook series, Strategies for Inclusive Excellence. These praxis books are for educators and trainers tasked with cultivating cultural competencies and mastering inclusivity in their professional and personal lives.
She has been published in the Journal of Educational Research and Practice, is a contributing author in a contemporary leadership book, created several instructional design templates for higher education, and is currently working on course design for mental health character development for other writers.
